A Letter to the Editor: Dear Chrystal,
The Laughing Lesbian has hit a milestone! We have hit one year and what a year it has been. When I first launched our small online magazine I had no idea what I was doing. And if we are being honest, I still donai??i??t. I had a good idea of what I wanted and I had some big dreams, but in reality I threw myself into the ocean without learning how to swim.
After awhile I realized I was sinking faster and faster, and slowly my dreams started to drift away as I became more frustrated and deflated. Then like an angel with killer eyebrows, Chrystal came into my life. We met via a discussion about Kate Mulgrewai??i??s memoir ai???Born With Teeth,ai??? an actress and woman we both look up to and someone I had my sights set on interviewing for the website. It wasnai??i??t hard to convince Chrystal to help me; she was on board and throwing ideas out left and right. And while we ultimately never got that interview with Kate (yet) we ended up building a partnership that became the foundation for The Laughing Lesbian.
This is my thank you to Chrystal, my partner, my editor and most importantly, my friend. Thank you for always supporting me in what ever I venture out to do, even when deep down inside you know that I am absolutely crazy. Thank you for shoving me out of my comfort zone, for making me realize my dreams and to chase after them. Thank you for always answering your phone at ungodly hours of the night to tell me where to put a comma, or to read an entire essay without hesitation for the website or a last minute class assignment (and even your own thank you letter). Thank you for arguing with me and giving me new perspectives in life and in every day situations. The Laughing Lesbian is built upon your dedication and perseverance. Without you I am not sure my dreams would have become the reality they are today, and for that I am forever grateful.
